Year End Awards
Members can participate in OQHA approved shows to earn points for year end awards. There are awards for Youth, Amateur, Select, Novice and Open. Awards are presented at a ceremony held in conjunction with the Annual Convention each January.
To earn State show points for year-end awards, the owner of the horse must be a member of the OQHA. Youth and Amateur riders must be members of the OQHA to earn show points for year-end awards.
If you have a current AQHA or AQHYA membership, you are eligible to show your American Quarter Horse in open competition. Open competition is usually for the most experienced exhibitors, trainers and professional horsemen but many amateur and youth members can be tough competitors as well.
Open classes can also be divided according to the age of the horse.
• Junior horses (5 years of age and under)
• Senior horses (6 years of age and older)
American Quarter Horse owners who do not join the professional ranks may enjoy a full spectrum of competition in the amateur division.
How It Works
Within the amateur division are levels: Rookie, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Youth age 18 and under are welcome to join. In addition to shows, the OQHYA members participate in fundraisers, meetings, service projects and other activities.
