Bobby Lewis, Overbrook OK

Bobby Lewis was born November 19, 1949 to Lois and R L “Tiny” Lewis in Amherst TX.  He was raised near Muleshoe, TX and graduated from San Jon High School in San Jon, New Mexico.  He later attended Eastern New Mexico State University.  Lewis later transferred to New Mexico State University where he graduated with Honors and with degrees in Ag and Extension Education.  Bobby was on the rodeo team for both Universities and earned several All-Around Titles while competing in Tie Down, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Bull Riding.

In his early years, Bobby was a jockey his father’s racehorse training operation while also competing in Match Races and Rodeo’s. He has always enjoyed the cattle events and has trained horses since he was a youth.

Bobby had a training operation in Clovis New Mexico and later moved it to Overbrook OK over thirty years ago and continues to train and show.

In April 1983, top competitor, Bobby Lewis, took over the helm for Reprise Bar.  Lewis and Carol Rose set out to campaign the horse toward a chance at the Superhorse title, and they were also trying for high-point honors.  They captured three high-points in the roping categories and were runner-up for the Superhorse title for a second year.  In 1984, Reprise Bar took high-points in four categories and won the Superhorse title at the AQHA World Championship Show.

The Oklahoma born horse, Genuine Redbud, first appeared at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in 1995 where Lewis showed him and captured the prestigious 1995 Superhorse Award during the final day of the show at State Fair Arena. With 86 points, Genuine Redbud, owned by Eric Storey and shown by Bobby Lewis in heading and heeling, went from a tie for 17th going into the day, all the way to first.

Dual Spark and Bobby Lewis were a Dynamic Duo for some time.  Together they have earned $61,669, 197.5 AQHA Points, AQHA Champion, three Time High Point Cutting Horse and were crowned Reserve Champions at the 2014 World’s Greatest Horseman and competed in several events and sanctions.

In 2014 he won the Intermediate Championship at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity on CSR Laydown Sally a great Daughter of Dual Spark! In 2015 CSR Dual Glo and Bobby won the AQHA World Champion Jr Heading.   Bobby and J Lows Glo, who is also out of the great mare Look At Her Glo, took the 2017 AQHA Champion Title in Jr Heading.

In 2023 Bobby was QData’s #1 Rope Horse Breeder, breeding and showing Superior horses such as Dual Spark, Dual Patron, Time To Glo, Spooks Gotta Spark, Spooks Grand Slam and many more.

Over the years, he has won over 30 AQHA World Championships in Cow Horse and Roping and has been a cornerstone in the AQHA Industry. Bobby is one of the few versatile trainers in today’s equine industry that competes in NRCHA and AQHA events.  Whether it be Calf Roping, Cow Horse, Dally Team Roping (Heading & Heeling), Cutting or Ranch Riding, Bobby continues to produce winners and always has many great horses for sale.

There is a love and dedication that fuels his foundation for success in an industry that has become a part of him. He continues to train and show to this day.

Bobby has two children, Son Clay Lewis and Daughter in law Hannah and Daughter, Shayna Lewis Peabody and Son in law Phil.   Sherry Robbins is his significant partner of 14 years.

Bobby Lewis is a 2024 Oklahoma Quarter Horse Hall Fame Inductee.
